Q:

Have you ever used Orvis 5' foot mini sink tips on WF floating line? Casting issues?
Same question for Cortland 10' mini head tip.

A:

Hi Tim,

Yep, I've tried them both ... and they both work. With either, you will feel the hinge effect as you complete the cast. Rather than a gradual transfer of power featured by some of the latest sink-tip lines, this transfer is abrupt. It is, however, something you can live with very nicely.

These tips are easy to carry, inexpensive to add to the inventory, and certainly easy to switch on or off at the scene of the crime. They are not accurate, however, they don't have to be. I yet to have "friend fish" yell, "No stupid, I am three yards to your right." I would of course appreciate that courtesy if the Ancient Fish Gods decide to allow it.

I favor the longer tips for deep rivers and the shorter ones for rivers with holes and/or the salt flats. Don't forget that these sinkers will pull the floater under, given enough time.

Let me know what happens should you use this dirty trick...

Best regards,

Doug
