Q:
What is the easiest way to connect the leader to the tippet?
Vinny
A:
Hi Vinny,
The easiest way is probably the best way ... Remember that the tippet
is "of" the leader and is usually the last 12 to 24-inches.
Simply tie a small double
surgeon's loop in the end of the leader and another in the adjoining
end of the tippet material, then loop the two together and, except for
tying on the fly, you are done. Be sure the shoulders of the two loops
are smooth, not with one on top of the other.
Years ago, many flies were sold with a short length of tippet already
tied to the fly with a loop at the other end. It was then, and is now,
a great idea because it is far easier to change out a looped fly as opposed
to cut and re-tie time after time. There are of course some waters where
the clarity is so good, it is best to use a continuous leader with a direct
tie tippet to fly; however, in this day, at times it's hard to find waters
like these.
