Q:
Hi, Doug
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles on Activeanlger.com. Especially
after reading your review on the Mastery Quad-Tip, I amconsidering purchasing
the line for my 10wt. RPLXi. My only concern is that where I live [Boston],
the braided monocore of this line might retain memory. Do you have any
experience with this line in coldwater or have any other suggestions?
I already have 400 grain sinker.
I would really appreciate your input on this.
Thanks in advance.
Ted
A:
Hi Ted,
Appreciate the good words, and the inquiry ... I talked to the folks at
Sci Anglers and got what I expected, "How cold is cold water?"
Consequently, I must fall back on my experience when fishing Narragansett
Bay many years ago before the days of AST and other advances in line construction.
Frankly, I think you will love the Quad Tip; however, if you fish late
into the late Fall when water temps drop, memory would probably be a problem
requiring a quick "stretch" of the running line. My experience,
however, suggests that early October was about it for productive fishing.
If it were me, I would go with the Quad Tip. Stretch or no stretch, I
think you will really like the Quad Tip because it
is so versatile, and casts like a dream. However, I learned today that
in the September shows, Sci Angler plans to introduce a new Striper (intermediate)
that is absolutely cold water friendly. (I understand that those fishing
the really cold waters of Alaska needed a more friendly line.) When asked
if I would test one, I simply laughed and suggested my freezer wasn't
big enough.
Hope this helps.
