At age 32, Captain Rowland is a rare flyfisherman who has guided extensively in both fresh and salt water. After attending the University of Alabama, Tom guided for 7 years out of Jackson, Wyoming before moving south to work the flats of the Florida Keys. While out west, Tom worked the most famous western trout waters. Rivers like The South Fork of the Snake River, The Teton River, The Green River and the waters of Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks were his office. Making pilgrimages each year, Tom learned and fished all the revered trout water of the Rocky Mountain West. In a few short years, Tom has become one of the premier fly fishing guides in all of Florida. Tom fishes with his return customers over 300 days a year and his credentials include numerous wins from the Redbone Series and other Lower Keys fishing tournaments. In 2000 he guided to an historical catch of a Grand Slam in the S.L.A.M. Superfly tournament which was the first ever in competition. From his home in Key West, he fishes the flats from Islamorada to the Marquesas for permit, bonefish, and tarpon.

Tom is a fly fishing specialist of the highest caliber and his personal casting and fishing skills are unsurpassed by any guide and have been noticed by manufacturers and industry professionals. ESPN invited Tom to participate in the inaugural Great Outdoor Games 2000. Rowland was a gold and silver medallist in the flyfishing portion of the event.

Since beginning his work with Scott Fly Rod Company, Tom has been instrumental in developing the STS series saltwater and freshwater rods. These rods won a KUDO award in their first year and have become the industry standard of excellence. Utilizing Rowland’s R&D skills, Scott then introduced the Eclipse series and the Scott line of pushpoles.

Tom has not just explored the guiding realm of this business. There have been many articles written featuring him in both magazines and books. His own articles and photographs have been published in Saltwater Flyfishing magazine, the 2001 cover of Scott Fly Rod Catalog, as well as Randall Kaufmann’s Bonefishing!. Tom also operates a web site that receives over 180,000 hits a year, which conducts retails sales and gives fishing news and reports.

Tom enjoys sharing his love of flyfishing and time with his return customer base, the people he comes in contact with but most, of all with his two little boys and wonderful wife, Cynthia.
