Fly Fishing with Doug Macnair:
Rogue's Gallery©
If you have recently ascended to the avocation of fly fishing, know this: you have chosen wisely, well beyond the thoughts and perceptions of a mere mortal. You have recognized the truthif horse racing is the Sport-of-Kings, than fly fishing is the Sport-of-the-Gods.
According to legend
High on Mount Olympus, Zeus still casts to the giant Golden Trout, Gotcha. Truly we are blessed in his failure to hook-up. Give praise! Give thanks! Make sacrifice to the Gods of Leaders, Tippets & Flies. The warning is clear: mankinds fate is at perilous risk should Zeus ever succeed. Hark! Give thought! What noise would surely emanate from yonder mountain if the two ever joined together in mortal combat? Me thinks the sky would break apart as Chicken Little sorely warned . . .
By becoming a fly fisher, you join the covenant of "Grandiose Personas." Please recognize you may be asked this at any moment, "Pardon me Sir (or Madame), do you have any Gray Poupon?" Your response should be, "Oui." Always have it available. Now, a word of welcome: it is indeed a pleasure to introduce you to a few individuals who have contributed something of value to Fly Fishing. We hope you will become further acquainted with each as you enrich yourself in the skills and expertise of this gentle art. We wish each of you "Good Fishing & Tight Lines" with a fervent hopethat you, too, make a contribution during your stay and participation in this sport. It matters little the specifics of your contribution or whether it be great or small. Your contribution can be anything you wantfrom teaching another the fundamentals of fly casting; becoming an advocate of catch-and-release; something as simple as explaining to a child the many mysteries of life in a creek or pond, or as complex as becoming an effective critic of those who continue to pollute our environment. Whatever it may be, give something back to the sport we know you will come to love as these folks have (alphabetically)
